Course AimsInstruct delegates in the basic operation, legislation and safe practical use of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWP’S)/ Cherry Pickers.
Training ObjectivesBy the end of the course delegates will have a basic understanding of the employees and employers duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, along with PUWER and LOLER, in relation to (MEWP’S).- Understand the hazards and risks associated with MEWP operation along with control measures required to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
- Understand principles of stability/instability and the rated capacity plate.
- Inspect and operate harnesses, lanyards and fall protection equipment.
- Safely operate the MEWP within its safe working capabilities ensuring correct shut down and parking.
Theory- Welcome and course introduction.
- Introduction of delegates.
- Appreciation of the duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act for employees and employer.

- Assessing working environment and ground conditions.
- The importance of pre-use checks and maintenance.
- Ten Health, Safety and operator questions.
Practical- Carry out pre-use checks on the MEWP prior to operation.
- Inspect and operate harnesses, lanyards and fall protection equipment.
- Assess ground and environment conditions prior to set up.
- Safely and sympathetically operate the MEWP.
