Course Aims

Instruct delegates in the basic operation, legislation and safe practical use of lorry mounted cranes.

Training Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will have a full understanding of
  • the employees and employers duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, along with PUWER and LOLER, in relation to lorry mounted cranes.
  • Identify the basic construction and main components of the both vehicle and attachments.
  • Carry out daily inspections and safety checks.
  • Understand principles of stability/instability, safe working load and the rated load plate.
  • Mobilising/demobilising the vehicle, assess both lifting equipment and load before safely operating the crane.
  • Safely and securely park the machine.

  • Welcome and course introduction

  • Planning the lift

Practical

  • Carry out pre-use checks on the forklift prior to operation
  • Assess the load and ground conditions
  • Select and inspect the appropriate lifting equipment
  • Basic crane signals
  • Safely and sympathetically operate the crane

  • Final assessment (Theory and Practical)
