Calcium Ammonium Nitrate typically contains 27% Nitrogen plus 4% MgO, half in the nitrogen in the ammonium form and half in the fast-acting nitrate form.

CAN is not as acidifying as Ammonium Nitrate or Urea, but recently has become more expensive per kilogram of nutrient so has a declining share of the UK market although the Magnesium content makes it ideal for use on rented land where the Magnesium is applied little-and-often as the crop requires it.  When the Magnesium content is taken into account, the productis a price-competitive alternative to Ammounium Nitrate or Granular Urea.
