Boron is often added to root crops like sugar beet and carrots, to prevent 'Heart-rot' or 'Five-o'clock shadow'. There are several sources of Boron:
Only small amounts of this trace element should be applied [example: 2 Kgs/ha of elemental boron], and only when required. One treatment normally provides sufficient boron for a full rotation. Used too often, toxic concentrations can build-up, causing blind-ears in barley, for example. At Bunns we can incorporate boron into many of our fertilisers.
