Foliar Fertilisers
agri K, available as a high quality solution for foliar spray, is indicated for treatment of potassium deficiency in a wide range of both arable and horticultural crops.

Potassium is a major nutrient, second only to nitrogen in the amounts required by the plant. It is essential to the plant as a regulator of cell water content, turgidity of the cells as well as transpiration rates. It acts as an activator of many enzyme systems and, of great importance in crop plants, its presence is essential for carbohydrate synthesis and the transfer of sugars.

Potassium Deficiency

Potassium deficiency affects a wide range of crops. Usually more common on light sandy or soils of low exchange capacity, or soils with strong potassium fixation. Soils with high calcium levels, chalky soils or over-liming may also favour deficiency in potassium.

Low levels of potassium will seriously affect general crop growth, quality and yield. The most common symptoms of deficiency are slowed growth, delayed maturity and disease. In advanced cases yellowing , withering or “burn” of leaf margins which may extend towards the midrib can be seen beginning with the older leaves.

The effects of potash deficiency are
  • A serious reduction in yield
  • Lowered quality of crop produce
  • Increased susceptibility to disease and adverse conditions [esp. drought]
  • Reduced frost resistance
  • Poorer resistance to lodging
  • Inability to make full use of light
  • Higher water consumption.
