What's the Waste Oil problem?

The Scheme is being promoted via the Environmental Health Officers of several local authorities and is proving successful, with licenced premises and registered kitchens confirming their "Duty of Care" for responsible disposal of their used vegetable oils.

The Problem

This would be for food businesses such as restaurants, takeaways, pubs, fish and chip shops etc. We have a number of problem areas where FOG is getting poured down drains causing blockages. In the past we have been cleaning out drains but they soon become reblocked.

Slack Storage

Not only does this cause blockages but if sewerage cannot flow down to the sewer then it can back up into a premise or house and flood into it.

Blocked Drains

On Occupation Road we also have an unusual case where the surface water (i.e. street drains for rainwater) are joined to the foul drains (i.e. those that carry toilet and sink waste). Therefore to block one will block the other.

Foul Smells

some businesses who had taken up the scheme came along to say they were grateful for such a service and how it works out cheaper to have it collected free and buy fresh oil rather than have to pay for a combined supply oil and collect waste oil service.

The Result

  • Blocked Drains
  • Rates
  • Localised Flooding

Here's The Solution!

Bunns recycle the used FOG and turn it into biodiesel. Download the Anglian Water Leaflet describing our service.

We work in partnership Anglian Water and with a number of different local authorites including

  • Huntingdonshire
  • Corby
  • Great Yarmouth, where refuse vehicles are powered by BioDiesel we manufacture.
