Micronutrients

Boron is often added to root crops like Sugar Beet and Carrots to prevent 'Heart-rot' or 'Five-o'clock shadow'.

There are several sources of Boron:

  • 'Solubor' & 'Borax' are tradenames for soluble foliar applied treatments
  • Generic Granular Boron can be applied within granular fertilisers

Only small amounts of this trace element should be applied [say, 2 Kgs/ha of elemental Boron] and then only when required. One treatment normally provides sufficient Boron for a whole rotation. Used too often, toxic concentrations can build-up causing blind-ears in Barley, for example.

At Bunns we can incorporate Boron into many of our fertilisers.
