South West Farmer Magazine has reported on the forthcoming opening of our new facility in Cornwall
5:40am Monday 12th July 2010 It’s easy to see the connection between a Fertiliser Company and a Dairy Farmer, but what is the connection with Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week? The regatta week hosts over 400 sailing boats of all types and sizes, in the country’s second biggest sailing event after Cowes Week, during the second week in August each year. The connection? Fertilizer company J & H Bunn Ltd., located in Falmouth Docks, will sponsor the ‘South West Area IRC Championships,’ an event for fast yachts within Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week, and the evening flood-lit Parade of Sail off the town’s Custom House Quay. The sponsorship was brokered by dairy farmer Steve Nicholls, who keeps a herd of 140 pedigree Holstein Friesians at Mylor, just outside the Port of Falmouth in Cornwall. Steve bought a small yacht some time ago, which he raced on some evenings during the summer. Over the years, Steve’s hobby has led him to become the organiser of Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week Regatta, Chairing the Port Of Falmouth Sailing Association, made up of the six sailing clubs around the River Fal, which host the sailing over the week. When asked “how does he find the time?” Steve, who still does most of the milking on his farm, replied “I just have to make time”. J & H Bunn Ltd. is a family business importing and manufacturing fertilisers of all types. The company was founded in Great Yarmouth in 1816 and have been established in Cornwall for over 25 years. They will be supplying fertilisers direct to farmers and growers throughout the South West and decided to launch their new venture with the help of publicity provided by sponsoring a local event which attracts national publicity. Bunns Managing Director David Harrod said "It's fitting that Bunns is celebrating the reopening of our facility in Falmouth with sponsorship of this important regatta. Before the advent of steam, Bunns chartered sailing ships from Australia to bring grains to the UK and today, many years later, many of our staff enjoy sailing, some competitively on the Norfolk Broads. We're looking forward to the South West Area IRC Championships and Parade of Sail and to welcoming customers and suppliers to enjoy the spectacle." Both J & H Bunn Ltd. and Steve Nicholls are delighted with the link up and look forward to the action packed week, which also includes day time and evening entertainment as well as event highlights with the Red Arrows Display, a firework finale and a re-enactment of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, Custer’s Last Stand - performed on the water!!
