B&G Spreaders have embraced modern technology with the introduction of three satellite-based services to provide the best-quality spreading service to farmers and growers across East Anglia.Parallel Swathing Technology ensures an even spreadSince the early 1970’s B & G have operated as two man teams: one driver and one marker. The latter responsible for marking the width the driver was to spread at by physically pacing out the distance. A slow and laborious exercise that unt il the advent of GPS parallel-swathing technology was crucial to the provision of an even-spreading and quality service.This new technology recently installed in all machines has allowed the highly skilled and experienced operators to have greater confidence knowing that the fertiliser is being applied accurately. The technology actually tells the drivers if they are so much as 12 inches off the correct chosen track. When the spreader is refilled, the GPS-controller directs the machine to the exact point where it previously left off. And by allowing the machine to spread into the wind, the risk of cross-drift is eliminated. Variable Spreading matches field requirements to fertiliser appliedEach spreader is now equipped with the latest technology in GPS monitoring offered by a the Outback System from Raven Technologies. The spreader controllers are compatible with GPS Variable Spreading technology and can utilise fertiliser application maps created by SOYL and other field mapping software providers.Satellite Tracking improves Efficiency and provides tracibilityAnd to further add to operational efficiency Tom Tom GPS navigation and tracking units have been installed on each spreader, which track the machine at all times with the recordings are kept for 90 days. This system is integrated with the haulage logistics provided by Spandler Bros’. Both haulage and spreading departments can see ‘Live’ where their vehicles are at any moment to reduce delays and improve operational efficiency and to provide key traceability information.Jeremy Hitcham, Director of B & G Spreaders says “Our customers have asked 'What are you doing to ensure best practice'?
